John Dean Park Trailhead: (21 km from Saanich Hall). From Saanich Municipal Hall drive 12.3km north on highway 17 to East Saanich Rd. Take onto East Saanich Rd and continue for 6.5km to Dean Park Rd. Turn left onto Dean Park Rd and drive up to the park entrance.

Features

This trail features birds (Bald eagle, Red tailed hawk, Turkey vulture), flowers (Blue camas, Broad-leaved shooting star, Indian paintbrush and Seablush), forests (Douglas fir and Garry oak) and views.

History

Mt Newton is known as Lau Wel New by the First Nations of the Saanich Peninsula.
