BC Coast Campfire Ban (details)
The Wildlife Management Branch of the BC Ministry of Forests and Range have declared a campfire ban across all areas covered by the Coastal Fire Centre. The only exception is areas in the West Vancouver Island Fog Zone. For more information see: Campfire Ban Announcement and details.

Hypothermia

This potentially deadly condition occurs when the body temperature falls below 95°F (35°C). The following is a brief overview:

Symptoms:

Mild:Shivering (stops as severe hypothermia sets in)
 Numbness
 Drowsyness, loss of coordination, confusion, irritability.
 Pale color to skin, especially the hands and feet
Severe:breathing slows down
 Stiff muscles
 Loss of consciousness
 Death

Treatment:

 Get help!
 Remove wet clothing
 Put on dry/warm clothing and get patient to a sheltered area
 Cover head and neck
 Warm body gradually (ie: wrap in blankets, sleeping bags, emergency blankets). If needed share body heat.
Mild only:Warm fluids (not alcohol)
 If progressing towards severe hypothermia do not give hot fluids/liquids. Do not apply direct heat (ie: hot water bottles, showers). Do not massage/rub limbs.

Prevention:

 Stay warm!
 Dress properly - wool, polypro, down or quilted synthetics.
 Eat well, hot nourishing meals and hot drinks (no alcohol).
